Event Details

Two large jazz ensembles, under the direction of Chip Crotts, will play traditional repertoire from the 1930s to present day. Musical selections include works by Sammy Nestico, Bob Mintzer, Neal Hefti, Oliver Nelson, Jim Martin, and Pat Metheny, among others.

Chip Crotts serves as Director of Jazz Studies and Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at the Georgia Institute of Technology. A GRAMMY nominated artist, Crotts has performed and recorded for the Disney Company in Europe and the United States, and maintains an active career as a first call musician for many national Broadway shows and touring ensembles. Chip has toured and worked with artists such as Ray Charles, Boston Brass, The Manhattan Transfer, Rhythm and Brass, Don Rickles, Natalie Cole, The O' Jays, Joan Rivers, Frankie Valli, The Temptations and Maynard Ferguson, among others.

Highly involved in the marching arts, Crotts has taught on the educational staffs of Spirit of Atlanta, Phantom Regiment, The Cavaliers, Santa Clara Vanguard and is currently Brass Co-Caption Head of the 19-time DCI World Champion Blue Devils. He is also very active as an adjudicator and has served in this capacity with organizations such as Bands of America, Drum Corps International, Music for All, Winter Guard International, Drum Corps Japan and Taiwan Marching Academy. As a clinician and educator, Crotts serves nationally for jazz, marching and concert festivals, in addition to presenting topics such as Brass Pedagogy, Jazz Pedagogy, Breathing for Wind Players, Versatility in Performance and the Outdoor Performing Ensemble. He is a Bach Trumpet Performing Artist and Conn-Selmer Educational Clinician.
