Winner, Best Outdoor Work of Light
CITIC Press Lightening Selection 2020!
If you can't make it to campus to experience AMYGDALA in person, see the data be translated into the visual and aural components of the physical work at fuseworks.it/en/research/amygdala-web. As fuse* puts it, this page "makes the installation's heart accessible."
AMYGDALA is an audiovisual installation capable of representing the collective emotional state of the Internet and its changes on the basis of events that take place around the world. Using sentiment analysis algorithms, AMYGDALA pulls information from social media in real time and translates the data into stunning light displays. The aim is to make visible the flow of data and information that are constantly being created by users, allowing participants to reflect on the opportunities and dangers of the digital revolution that we are currently going through. AMYGDALA was produced by CUBO Unipol and premiered at FLUX US exhibition, and was seen most recently in 2019 at ARTECHOUSE in Washington, DC.
“I’m drawn to work that speaks to both the visceral and the intellectual, and AMYGDALA appears to do just that. There is a sense of ritualism, repetition, and exploration that drifts out from the imagery and forms.” -Cycling ’74
